20 Manufacturers Present OMS-Compliant Smart Meters at European Utility Week

Cologne, 21.10.2019 – They are in the starting blocks for the rollout: 20 manufacturers will present the future of the meter market with 26 OMS-compliant smart meters at the European Utility Week (EUW) in Paris from November 12th to 14th, at the joint stand of the OMS-Group (G131).

With substantial changes to the European Energy Efficiency Directive (EED), the EU launched a far-reaching set of rules in May 2019, titled the "Clean Energy for all Europeans Package". "In summary, it can be said that the new rules will support a successive introduction of remotely readable smart meters for all sectors," explained Carsten Lorenz, member of the OMS Executive Board. The topic of interoperability is gaining in importance in this context; on the one hand to stimulate competition, and on the other hand, to guarantee a future-proof infrastructure. Lorenz will present the advantages of the open OMS specification in connection with the new regulations in a presentation on "Energy efficient & standardized communication for battery driven devices" – on November 13th at 12.10 p.m.

The exhibitors of the "OMS Product Wall" are: Apator Metrix, B Meters, Diehl Metering, Discovergy, EAD Systeme, Ei Electronics, Engelmann Sensor, Friendcom, Ingenieurbüro Lertes, Kamstrup, Landis+Gyr, Lansen Systems, Lorenz, Maddalena, Qundis, Radiocraft, Relay, Sinapsitech, Solvimus and Weptech. The members of the OMS Working Group Marketing will provide information to visitors at the booth.

The Open Metering System (OMS) communication standard developed by grid operators and the industry, offers full interoperability for devices from different manufacturers of smart meters, gateways and accessories. OMS is the only Europe-wide system definition that integrates all media (electricity, gas, heat and water including submetering) in one system.

For the first time, the EUW is expecting over 18,000 visitors and 800 exhibitors and has thus developed into the most important European trade fair for the energy sector. The OMS-Group exhibited for the first time in 2014. As in 2018, it welcomes visitors with a product exhibition that is trendsetting for the metering industry.
