Wolfgang Esch: Test Tool serves as OMS Reference

The OMS Test Tool is used as an official test tool by the certification laboratory and serves as an OMS reference. Optimally Prepared for Rollout: "OMS Conformance Test Tool" for Metering Point Operators

The rollout of thousands of smart meters and gateways will start in Germany in 2019. The "OMS Conformance Test Tool" ensures OMS compatibility in the development and design of equipment. "With our tool, we provide metering point operators with everything they need to check the OMS compatibility of smart meters before the rollout. Tested and certified quality stands for a smooth interaction with the gateways", reported Jörg Feuchtmeier (Diehl Metering), head of the OMS Working Group Testing Norm.

AG 3 Provides Tools for Smart Meter Conformance Tests

The OMS working group 3 (AG 3) defines test specifications for obtaining interoperability certificates on the basis of the OMS-specification and provides the OMS Conformance Test Tool for the compliance testing of smart meters for manufacturers and metering point operators. In mid 2018, AG 3 released the newest Issue 4.2.6.

The head of the working group, Jörg Feuchtmeier (Diehl Metering), shapes the future plans of AG 3: “In 2019 the focus will be on the certification for wireless uni-directional sensors and on a use case for testability of bi-directional wired M-Bus solutions.”

From the OMS Executive Board

After the positive outlook for 2019 in the recent General Meeting, two new members of the Executive Board, Professor Dr. Axel Sikora from the Offenburg University and Volker Eck from the Erfurt measuring instrument manufacturer Qundis, took up their duties in the OMS-Group in January.

The Executive Board started its first meeting in 2019 with a full agenda. The meeting was scheduled on 30 January in Cologne. Progress in certification was one of the major agenda items. The opportunities of digitalization for OMS were discussed. An increase in the use of metering communication in IoT was expected.

The next OMS Board meeting will be held on April, 3rd in Nurrenberg.
