Dear Readers,

It is with great pleasure that we invite you to two prestigious metering events in the coming weeks both of which the OMS-Group is actively involved in.

OMS will be at the European Utility Week 2019 in Paris, with its own booth and will also make a presentation at the conference. Prior to this, at the metering days 2019 in Fulda, OMS will be involved in a round table talk. We look forward to welcoming you to both events.

I hope you enjoy reading this newsletter that provides more details on the current OMS activities.

Best regards,
Charles van Dyck

New Certified OMS Devices by Maddalena and Kamstrup

OMS certification proves compatibility with the OMS specification and opens up a broad market to manufacturers of interoperable smart meters. Two new OMS Generation 4 products have recently been added to the product listing: The "Radio EVO Module" from Maddalena S.p.A. – a module for water meters – and the “MULTICAL® 803” from Kamstrup A/S – a heat and cooling meter. In total there were 23 smart meters listed on the OMS website at the end of September.

The VDE Institute Certifies OMS Devices

The future is digital, even in measurement systems. In the coming years, intelligent measurement systems will be installed in an increasing number of households. These systems measure, among other things, electricity, gas, water, and heat consumption and send the collected data. The VDE Institute now certifies all communication modules in line with the specifications of the OMS-Group.

Increased Distribution of OMS Conformance Test Tool

This year numerous network operators and utilities have already taken the decision to use the OMS Conformance Test Tool. They will roll out thousands of smart meters and gateways in the near future. The OMS Conformance Test Tool offers the fastest and easiest option to verify the OMS and M-Bus compatibility of these devices. The newest Version v4.3.5 can be ordered at the OMS Office (office(at)oms-group.eu).

OMS Product Wall and Speech at EUW 2019 in Paris

The OMS-Group is looking forward to welcoming you to its large Product Wall at the European Utility Week in Paris from November 12th–14th, 2019. The exhibition at booth G131 will present more than 25 trendsetting OMS products from members.

In addition, Carsten Lorenz, a member of the OMS-Group Executive Board, will present the benefits of OMS in the session "Interoperability requirements in support of the Clean Energy Package" on November 13th. His presentation with the title "Energy efficient & standardized communication for battery driven devices" will be held from 12:10 p.m. to 12:20 p.m. at Digitalisation – Theatre 3.

A team of OMS experts is looking forward to meeting you at the booth and to answer any questions you have for them.
metering days 2019: Round Table with OMS-Group

Wolfgang Esch (Photo), OMS Executive Board member, and Charles van Dyck, head of the OMS Working Group Marketing, will discuss "News from the OMS Group" in a round table talk with attendees of the metering days 2019 in Fulda.

The round table talks will take place on the 2nd day of the congress – October 10th, 2019 – from 1.30 p.m. to 3.30 p.m. At various round tables, visitors will have the opportunity to put their questions to the speakers and obtain detailed information on current metering topics.
OMS Devices in Pole Position

The OMS-Group actively participated in the Congress of Independent Heating Cost Accounting Companies (HeiKo 2019) that took place from Sept 30 – Oct 1, 2019 in Kassel, Germany. Hartmut Michels (Photo), Managing Director at standata GmbH and member of the OMS Working Group Marketing, presented the status quo of open wireless communication. He gave a speech entitled "Open Radio Standards – OMS, LoRa and what to do? – Overview and Practice". Based on the regulatory framework, the European Energy Efficiency Directive (EED) and the Building Energy Act (GEG), Hartmut Michels described the need to convert the entire inventory of measuring instruments in submetering to radio and remote reading. This puts OMS-compatible devices in pole position due to the necessity for BSI guidelines.

From the OMS Executive Board

The board has held two meetings since its last report in “news4all” 2/2019. Our first meeting was held in June in Erfurt at Qundis and the other, in August in Nuremberg at Landis + Gyr.

Due to internal matters within figawa, Gotthard Graß, the representative for figawa in the OMS Executive Board, was recalled at the end of August. The board expresses its gratitude for the many years of excellent cooperation and every board member wishes Gotthard all the best for his personal future. Volker Meyer, managing director of figawa, will be the new representative for figawa within the OMS board. He will be confirmed at the next OMS member meeting. Until then, the Executive Board continues with Gotthard’s tasks spread between its members.

The General Manager of the International Sales Departement of our Chinese member, Friendcom visited Europe this past September. She was in Munich exchanging information with Andreas Bolder, spokesperson for the OMS board and Hermann Trottler, member of the OMS board. It was a fruitful dialogue and OMS expressed its hope for a strong promotion of the OMS specification within China.

Andreas Bolder took the opportunity of his attendance at HeiKo to visit and get aquainted with many of the OMS members exhibiting their products and services. Among the 33 exhibitors, there were 14 OMS members and of the 13 technical lectures held during HeiKo, nine were held by OMS members. This is clear proof of the key role that OMS already plays today in the heat costs billing industry. With the expected legal requirements for interoperability in Germany and Europe, OMS can now further expand its position.

The next OMS board meeting will be held on November, 7th in Landau. One topic will be the preparation of our annual member meeting at the beginning of December.
