Dear Readers,

We are happy to welcome four new members to the OMS-Group. Also three new OMS certified interoperable metering devices have been added to our product listing – great news given the current situation, which is still affected by Corona. To protect the health of our members, the OMS General Meeting on December 1, 2020 will take place as a web meeting. We are, however, looking forward to welcoming all of our members, at least digitally, and hope to see all of you again at a face-to-face event in 2021.

Enjoy reading this latest newsletter edition and send us your comments and suggestions.
Stay safe and healthy!

Best regards,

News from the OMS Executive Board

It remains exceedly likely the Corona virus' grip on our societies and economies will continue in the months to come. Personal meetings have become a precious type of interaction. After we had the chance to hold the Executive Board's meeting in July in the premises of Offenburg University, our October meeting had to be held remotely, again.

Our summer topics included further development of the OMS Conformance Test Tool, the future OMS licensing scheme, and our activities regarding the development of the German Smart Meter Gateway. Our autumn meeting dealt with the targeted liaison of the OMS-Group with CEN/TC 294, our linking with the internet of things (IoT), and of course our upcoming General Meeting in which a full report on this year's activities will be given to our members.

Nearly every business branch reports its digital developments regarding products or customer relationship. Looking at the energy/utility sector it has to be said that remote reading of meters is the starting point for establishing a reliable chain-of-information for energy or water consumption. With OMS certified meters, utilities invest into a future-proof system of meter communication; applicable to all media, manufacturer independent, and based on European Standards.

It is for this reason that interest in the OMS-Group remains high and we continue to grow – as you have read in this edition of news4all. With the pending revision of the German "Ordinance on the consumption-based billing of heating and hot water costs" remote reading of submetering devices will be mandatory at short notice as a result of the Energy Efficiency Directive (EED). It is our strong belief that the statutory requirements regarding interoperability, data privacy and security will be easily met by certified OMS devices.

It is with confidence that we are looking forward to actively participating in the decisions to come.
