Dear Readers,

It gives us great pleasure to announce that the first OMS Webinar, which took place in February, had a large number of participants who attended, contributing to a lively exchange on a wide range of subjects. A short review can be found in the first article. As a result, many new interoperable OMS-certified devices were added to the product listing. Below you can read more about the growth of the product listing as well as the announcement of our newest 67th member.
All this shows that the interest in the Open Metering System and the OMS-Group is impressive even in these times. Nevertheless, we very much hope that we will be able to exchange experiences at a face-to-face event once again by the end of November.

Firstly, we hope you enjoy reading our second Newsletter of the year. We are always open to suggestions and comments.

Best regards,
Charles van Dyck
Head of the OMS Working Group Marketing

OMS Webinar: Stream and Presentations Online

The OMS Webinar "OMS-Certified Products in LMN Interaction with Smart Meter Gateways" on February 24th was a great success. Experts from the metering industry provided insights into device certification and the application of the open OMS standard. Well over 350 registrations, and at peak 250 visitors, simultaneously followed the various speaker presentations.

For all those who could not make it or who would like to listen in more detail, all presentations of the OMS Webinar, which was held in German, are available as a stream on the OMS website. There, you can also download the presentations. The image on the left shows a slide from the presentation "OMS Standards in iMSys from the BSI's Point of View" by Thomas Joachim (German Federal Office for Information Security, BSI).

Further OMS Webinars on other exciting topics are planned.

OMS-Group is Delighted to Welcome its 67th Member: eBZ GmbH from Germany

The eBZ GmbH was founded in Bielefeld in 2014 and focuses on three-point fixed electricity meters with maximum added value in Germany with high quality standards, from development to production. The goal is optimized electronic basic meters (in German: elektronische Basis-Zähler) with open interfaces that enable easy integration into intelligent systems (smart metering, smart grid, smart home).
At the beginning of 2016, the first approved modern metering device DD3 with the required storage depth of 730 days was presented at E-world in Essen. In 2021, the delivery of the millionth mME for the German market took place. As in past years, the portfolio will be continuously extended as integrated or modular communication boards.

Why did eBZ GmbH become an OMS-Group member?
As a manufacturers' association, the OMS-Group has developed very good open communication standards for meters, which are recognized and implemented by other bodies, rule makers and users without any objections. eBZ would like to now accompany the future activities of the OMS-Group more closely, contribute its part and support with high quality electronic electricity meters.
Large Increase to 40 OMS-Certified Devices in Product Listing

The number of OMS-certified devices has skyrocketed. Eight more OMS Generation 4 devices have been added to the product listing since February: The "T450" from Landis+Gyr, a static ultrasonic heat meter/cooling meter, the "HCA Monitor 2.0 – 2.0 E", a heat cost allocator and the "Monitor 2.0 Pulse", a domestic water consumptions data acquisition device – both from Caleffi.

Arad Technologies contributes a water meter named "Sonata". Engelmann Sensor comes up directly with three OMS-certified devices: The "SensoStar", an ultrasonic/mechanical heat and/or cooling meter, the "SensoStar C", a calculator resp. heat meter and/or cold meter and the "HCA e2", an electronic heat cost allocator. Finally, there is a new OMS-certified device from Diehl Metering: The "Hydrus 2.0 Bulk" is an ultrasonic water meter.

OMS certification ensures compatibility with the OMS Specification and opens a broad market for manufacturers of interoperable smart meters. Currently 40 devices are listed on the OMS website.

News from the OMS-Group's Executive Board

The second meeting of the Board took place virtually in April. Although we take the current Corona pandemic seriously, face-to-face meetings are easier to conduct when dealing with matters that require a lot of discussion.

The financial status of the OMS-Group is on a soundtrack for this year, as we had our view on the estimated balance after the first quarter. Also, the tasks that require monitoring from the Board are well under way. After having mentioned the negotiations with the Mioty Alliance in the last news4all, we are happy to announce that a collaboration between the OMS-Group and the Mioty Alliance was signed in the first week of April between the Board of the Mioty Alliance and the Board of the OMS-Group. We are now planning to discuss a concrete working topic.

The European Union Intellectual Property Office has issued its Certificate of Registration for our Union Certification Mark. That is another milestone in our effort to offer the manufacturers of certified OMS products the possibility to brand their certified OMS products with an OMS sign. We will continue in our negotiations with the certification institutes regarding an easy way for licensing.

As we mentioned, the OMS webinar in February was a great success. Of particular interest was the newly published OMS-TR07 which increases the interest of smart meter gateway manufacturers for the possibilities of the OMS protocol. The OMS-TR07 has been of importance to the OMS Board since the first non-committal meetings in February 2018, but the idea then was ahead of its time. After market demand increased, it took less than 12 months from kick-off to release, through combined efforts from all parties involved. That is what the OMS-Group stands for, to deliver a received standard within an acceptable timeframe.

The first manufacturer of single electricity meters has joined the OMS-Group as a result. We are certain that this is only the beginning and there will be more announcements soon.
