OMS TR09: Guide to Wired M-Bus Installations

The OMS Technical Report 09 "Guide to Wired M-Bus Installations" (OMS TR09) was published in June 2022 by the OMS Working Group 4 (OMS AG4). This report was created with the intention of providing design and installation guidance for the target audience "Installers and planers of Wired M-Bus system solutions". The report is the essence of the long-term system integration experience of the OMS AG4 experts and consists of chapters with basic information, for planning and installation as well as for troubleshooting. The OMS TR09 is a bilingual document with sections for both English and German languages.
OMS Product Listing Grows to 64 OMS-Certified Devices

The number of OMS-certified products passes the 60 mark. Six more OMS Generation 4 devices have been added to the product listing since June: Sensus adds the "Domo R", a wM-Bus Module with 868 MHz. This was followed by three devices from Diehl Metering: "SHARKY 774" and "SHARKY 775", both compact energy meters, and the "SCYLAR INT 8", a thermal energy calculator. The latest submissions are two devices from Zenner: the "IUW with NDC-module" and the "IUWS wM-Bus", both ultrasonic water meters. In addition, some certificates were extended for existing devices.

OMS certification ensures compatibility with the OMS Specification and opens a broad market for manufacturers of interoperable smart meters. Currently, 64 devices are listed on the OMS website.

News from the Executive Board

It’s been some time since the last news4all. In June we were still looking towards the 1st “Dialogue with the Board”, open for every OMS member. The participation was not overwhelming, but appropriate for the project. The questions received were about the long-term issues of the OMS-Group, like certification and licencing. My colleagues from the Board and I provided sufficient answers and we will see about the members’ feedback in next year’s event.

The 3rd Executive Board meeting 2022 took place in the 1st week of August. The Board gave clearance to the accompanying work necessary to have an administrative basis for the new technical work done by the OMS AGs and TFs.

In the 2nd week of November, the Executive Board met for its 4th meeting of this year. Traditionally as a joint meeting with our Heads of AGs and TFs, in preparation for the OMS General Meeting taking place the beginning of December. With most participants on site in Huerth near Cologne, it was a very lively discussion about this year’s work and the results achieved.

Although there is a delay in the scheduled change of an internal collaboration tool, that had no effect on the work of the AGs and TFs, which are the core of the OMS-Group. Therefore, the OMS General Meeting will determine further developments in the OMS Specification, to keep it up-to-date with technical progress.

Looking back on the 1st year of the new Executive Board’s term, I am happy to state that the two new members did a great job. Not only did they take over responsibilities from the two former Board members, but they also brought in their professional experiences and perspectives to give us new thoughts about how to look on OMS. This will help us to develop the OMS-Group and its role in metering associated communication in the future.

As you’ve read in this news4all, the OMS-Group will present itself during the Enlit 2022 in Frankfurt/M. My colleague Jens Hørdum will be there to give a first outlook about this future role of the OMS-Group in metering associated communication. Therefore, to receive 1st hand news, I invite you to attend his presentation announced in the Enlit article above.

As this extraordinary year draws towards an end, with thoughts about the fragility of peace, the uncertainty about our future environmental conditions, and the economic aspects of expensive energy, let us remember that every step towards a sustainable solution creates a difference. With this in mind, I wish you the courage and strength to work towards sustainable developments both in your personal life as well as in your work.

Andreas Bolder
Spokesperson of the Executive Board
