OMS-Group Board Meeting in January 2018
The Executive Board of the OMS-Group wishes all members and all readers of our newsletter a successful year 2018!
Last year the OMS-Group took another big step forward to achieve our goal of defining an interoperable communication standard for metering systems for all energy types. We would like to thank the members of the OMS working
groups, who have made a major contribution to these accomplishments. We would like to express our special thanks to Uwe Pahl, whose commitment as convener of the WG 1 “Primary Communications“ played a major role
in shaping the OMS specification from the very beginning. At the OMS-Group General Assembly in November 2017, Mr. Pahl announced that he wants to step down as convener of the WG 1, but will continue to participate
in the working group. Now the WG 1 has the task of choosing a new convener.
The Executive Board of the OMS-Group met for its scheduled meeting in Cologne on January 23, 2018. The main focus of the discussion was the evaluation of the member survey of the OMS-Group. The response rate of the
survey was 30%. That is less than we hoped for, as we want to adjust the tasks that lie ahead of us according to the wishes of the OMS-Group members.
The survey had asked members to evaluate their satisfaction with the OMS-Group on a 6-point grading scale from 1 (excellent) to 6 (insufficient). The average value of the respondents was 2.6. 81% of the respondents stated
that they would recommend the OMS-Group to others. The main reasons to join OMS-Group are the work on standardization and interoperability and the possibility to participate in the development of the specification.
Participants of the survey expect the OMS-Group to ensure interoperability by providing a proper, transparent and comprehensive certification program. And they expect the OMS-Group to become more international. 87.5% of the
respondents focus on IoT and 94% want the OMS-Group to work on IoT. Respondents also stated that information on the OMS standard should be spread more widely outside of Germany, especially in Eastern Europe, the Middle East and
Africa. Marketing actions are important to achieve this goal. 81% of the survey respondents agree that the written communication of the OMS-Group should be in English only.
The Executive Board of the OMS-Group will address these topics and dedicate one full day to the discussion of the strategic objectives at the next board meeting.
