Häufig gestellte Fragen (FAQ)

1. Wireless smart meter reading: We would like to offer our customers the option of reading smart meters via a wireless interface. Is there a software development kit for this, or can we find all the relevant information in the existing standards?
Wireless readout always includes a piece of hardware, namely the receiver and the subsequent gateway, e.g. to the Internet. The OMS specification describes the communication between the measuring device and the receiver/gateway. Further information and specific gateways from OMS members can be found on our homepage.
2. interoperability between OMS devices: Can two OMS devices from different manufacturers communicate with each other if both use the OMS specification but also use proprietary commands?
OMS devices are generally interoperable as long as they follow the OMS specifications. However, proprietary commands can restrict interoperability if they are not generally supported.
3. backwards compatibility of OMS versions: Are OMS versions backwards compatible?
OMS always strives for high compatibility between different versions. Details on the compatibility of specific versions can be found in the respective release documentation on our website.
4. reading heat meters from different manufacturers: Is there a solution for reading heat meters from different manufacturers that supports reading via walk-by on a Windows laptop with a wireless M-Bus radio module via USB/Bluetooth?
Yes, for the wireless reading of heat meters from different manufacturers, we recommend using gateways that are compatible with the Wireless M-Bus radio module. Details on supported devices and solutions can be found on our homepage.
5. comparison between OMS 2.0 and OMS 3.0: What is the difference between OMS 2.0 and OMS 3.0?
The main differences lie in the extended functions and improved security protocols in OMS 3.0, which enable more efficient and secure communication.
