Cologne, 20.09.2023 – The Technical Report 08 "OMS over mioty" was developed in a joint Task Force and published on the OMS website.
The OMS Technical Report 08 "OMS over mioty" (OMS-TR08) was published in June 2023 by the OMS Task Force mioty (OMS AG1 TF mioty). This report specifies OMS over mioty, which is a method that uses the mioty radio protocol with fixed MAC Mode, as a transport mechanism in an OMS network. It was created by a joint Task Force with members of the OMS-Group (www.oms-group.org) and the mioty alliance (www.mioty-alliance.com). "An intensive and constructive cooperation between members of both associations made it possible to create the TR08. By the Specification of OMS via mioty, the field of application of the Open Metering System can be extended to other areas in the future," explains Alexander Winter, Head of the OMS Task Force mioty. The TR08 can be downloaded at www.oms-group.org/en/open-metering-system/technical-reports.
The mioty alliance currently consists of 42 members worldwide. Mioty is an LPWAN (Low Power Wide-Area Network) wireless communication protocol based on TS-UNB (Telegram Splitting Ultra Narrowband) as described in [ETSI 103 357], intended for massive IoT deployments, and is suitable for battery powered devices.
The OMS-Group is a 73-member strong interest group of companies from twenty-one countries worldwide. With the Open Metering System (OMS), the association has developed an open, manufacturer-independent, interoperable communication standard for electricity, gas, thermal energy, and water meters as well as submetering. The founding organisations are figawa and KNX Association. The OMS specification is constantly being further developed and adapted to the requirements of the metering industry. A certification system guarantees the plug & play interoperability of all OMS-certified smart meters listed on the OMS website: www.oms-group.org.
