OMS-Group Presents Smart Metering Innovations

|   Press Release

Cologne, August 11, 2017 – Experts of OMS-Group will present their smart metering portfolio at the metering days, which will take place in Fulda, Germany, from September 19 to 20, 2017. Members of the group will exhibit smart meters that have been developed, tested and certified according to OMS Spec. 4.0. These devices meet the strict requirements of the German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) and ensure interoperability, data security, access control and encryption according to the latest technical standards. The internationally growing association OMS-Group with 56 member companies from 13 countries will also present international reference projects and collaborations at the event.

In addition to the shared exhibition stand of OMS-Group, nine member companies will exhibit their metering solutions in Fulda: Apator, Diehl Metering, Honeywell, Itron, Iskraemeco, Lackmann, Landis + Gyr, Relay, and Zenner. Carsten Lorenz, Head of Product Management at Honeywell and Member of the Management Board of OMS-Group, will give a talk on OMS Communication in the Local Metrological Network at the conference.

At the OMS-Group stand, the focus is on practical use cases that show how utilities, energy service providers, and the home and building automation industry can benefit from using the OMS standard.

“The OMS specification for communicating consumption data of all energy types is not only of great interest in Europe,” says Dr. Werner Domschke, Spokesman of the OMS-Group Executive Board. “OMS devices are currently also sold in the Middle East and Latin America. With the numberof OMS devices according to OMS Spec. 4.0 growing over the next few months, we are creating the preconditions for accelerating the application of smart meters.” He added that the German Energy Agency (Dena) for instance just recently underlined the importance of visualizing consumption data for the success of the energy transition in the heating market.

Over the past 10 years, OMS-Group has developed an open, patent-free, interoperable and safe specification for smart metering in all energy segments that also enables sub-metering and the integration of building automation, energy management and smart home systems. The OMS specification is an integral part of BSI TR 03109, the Common Criteria Protection Profile of the German Federal Office for Information Security, and it has substantially renewed the European standard EN13757.

OMS-Group and its members are looking forward to interesting discussions and professional exchanges at the event and at the stand of OMS-Group e. V.
