OMS-Group starts labeling system at the E-world energy & water 2016 in Essen, Germany

|   Press Release

Cologne, January 18 th , 2016A new era starts for the consumption data metering at the E-world energy & water 2016 in Essen, Germany. The Open Metering System (OMS) has reached a new level of specification so that a new OMS product label will be introduced for interoperable and secured meters, independent from their type of energy. The procedure was developed by the OMS-Group, in which more than 50 German and European smart metering suppliers, energy providers and meter-reading companies have been joined together since 2007.

All products which are compliant to the Open Metering System specification will be awarded with the OMS-Label. The OMS-specification is the only communication standard that offers a multi-vendor consumption data metering for electricity, gas, thermal and water energy and will also offer an interface to the smart building. The development was based on the EN 13757-x and is compatible with the KNX Standard ISO 14543-3/EN 50090.

A testing procedure, which proves and certifies the conformity to the OMS-specification, stands prominent on the front of the awarding label. The certification body is the DVGW CERT Bonn, an institution of the German “Verein des Gas- und Wasserfaches” (DVGW). With the certificate, the manufacturer receives the label and an entry on the list of certified OMS-Products, published on the OMS website.

OMS-Group developed an automated procedure which runs via a testing software tool. It enables the manufacturers to do the required tests themselves to prepare for the certification. Suppliers, reps of the housing industry and users of the house and building automation use the OMS-Label to see, which devices are especially future-proofed for smart metering. With the certification, the OMS-Group developed a procedure that will anticipate the energy revolution and secure the avai lability of interoperable smart meters.
